Check Your Body at the Door (work in progress): Dr. Sally Sommer, Professor of Dance at Florida State University, presents her remarkable documentary film that explores the movement vocabulary of legendary NYC house dancers, including Archie Burnett, Willie Ninja, Ejoe Wilson, Marjory Smarth and Conrad Rochester. Made possible in part by contributions from the National Endowment of the Arts, Dr. Somner interviews dancers from the local NYC scene and captures now-vintage footage from the late 80s and early 90s. Check Your Body at the Door now stands as an historical document and testament to the early years of NYC’s house dance culture.

How Do I Look (excerpt): Directed by Wolfgang Busch, How Do I Look is the follow up of the international successful movie "Paris is Burning", distributed by Miramax Films. The film continues where Paris is Burning left off, exploring the underground Ballroom community of New York’s vogue scene. Since 1997, Wolfgang has been documenting the "Balls", where the "Old School" and the "New School” Legends are competing in a safe and artistic environment at locations around NYC. It has been that way since the 60's, when the "Balls" started in Harlem. The "children", members of the "Houses", compete for trophy's and cash money, representing their "House" and hoping to become a "Legend" one day. How Do I Look is a tool to showcase our talents, brings the Ballroom community together, gain artistic and human respect, provides hands on video production/post production training, improves the quality of life and sends HIV/AIDS awareness messages through the many we lost to AIDS and the ones living with HIV now. www.howdoilooknyc.org
